To Nazereth!!

7.30am Waking up early for a simple breakfast of bread, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, cheese and orange juice. Afterall, we'll be staying in the same hotel for the next few days and the buffet breakfast is almost the same everyday. =)

8am Taking a morning stroll by at the beach by the sea of Galilee where our resort is.

Enjoying the peacefulness and couldn't help but start to sing "Still"-- when the oceans roar and thunders rise, I will be still and know You are God.

9am Beginning our ride to Nazareth!
Along the way, we saw many palm trees.. or do you call them date trees? All ripe and full of dates ready for harvesting.

Reaching Nazareth Village. Not the ancient Nazareth, but a place made to resemble the place where Jesus grew up.

10.30am Here we reached!
Hwai May and I taking a shot at the entrance of the "museum"

It was a guided tour and we learnt a lot about the life of Jesus and the era in which He lived in. What caught my attention first was this door.. there's a small door within the big door. No wonder when someone asked Jesus, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" in Luke 13:23, He said to them in Luke 13: 24"Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to." An analogy which the people at that time could understand and relate to.

Out into the field, we see what I call "Nativity Land".

An old shepherd and his flock, a young man standing guard at the watchmen's tower. I thought the watchmen's tower is very tall, but no, it is just a post at a high point.

And a olive and wine press !
Trivia question: Do you know why bare feet are used to trample on the olives to get the juices out?
Answer: Cos if you wore shoes, you would have crushed the stems and seeds as well, resulting in a bitter taste!
One more thing, nothing is wasted! The pulp are used as animal feed!Another Trivia: We call it the Garden of Gethsemane. Do you know what Gethsemane means? The oil that comes out from the very hardpressed olive is like blood, red in color. And that process sounds like ge-se-ma-ne in hebrew. Thus the word, and garden of Gethsemane => That Jesus' sweat were like drops of blood when he prayed.
A workroom with tools that Jesus would have learnt to use from His father, Joseph, who was a carpenter.
The front part of the house is the workroom, the back of the house, has a rest area and other rooms. On to a synagogue, a place where people commune and worship together.

It was a large empty hall. Luke 4:16 Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.
Such thick scrolls where do they store them? On the right corner at the back, you'll see another door -- that leads to the storeroom.. where they store the scrolls in jars..
See the holes on the top of the walls near the ceiling? No wonder it was possible to lower the cripple from the "roof" to get Jesus's attention to heal him. No wonder someone who tries to "squeeze" into the synagogue can fall down when he fell asleep during a sermon.
Luke 4: 24, 28-30
"I tell you the truth," Jesus continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown."... All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
Are we still rejecting him today?

Just a final shot here to show that though this is just Nazareth Village, it's still quite a little walk from the Shepherd's flock to the houses and synagogue.
And now, off to Megiddo!
