Thank God that the doctors (about 3 of them had a discussion) found out the cause today. It has a long medical name, in short, its PNH (Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria). Apparently there are 2 ways to treat it, to either administer antibodies or steriods. The antibodies are not available in Singapore. As such, the doctors decided to administer steriods. Steroids do come with some side effects and Hmay whined a little at the thought of it. I told her that we'll still love her and she responded with a couragous smile. =)
Perhaps Hmay exerted herself too much yesterday. She was exceedingly tired today. She didn't sleep well last night. It was a weird feeling, she said. She doesn't know if it was the kidney or her stomach. And when she turned to her left, she vomitted =(.
I watched her as she laid quietly in her bed, frowning in her sleep and occasionally breathing very deeply. When she wanted water, she didn't even had the energy to suck from the straw. I had to drop water slowly into her mouth. She hardly could whisper a word or open her eyes. Thank God though that by late evening, she was able to garner some energy to take 3 mouthful of food.
She will be undergoing blood transfusion later tonight. Let's pray that she'll feel better tomorrow.. esp since it's weekend and we foresee loads of people trying to come and visit her..
