From Sunrise to Sundown

Woke up at 4.30 am to get ready for the "final" climb uphill so that we can begin our trek at 5am and catch the sunrise in time!
It was super cold and the air was super thin. For every one step we take, it seemed like a dozen other trekkers would pass us by.
As the sky got brighter as we trudge (notice that I no longer use the word "trek"), we got more anxious.. will we reach in time to catch the sunrise?

Finally the PoonHill viewpost is in sight!

Reaching our final destination at 3210m high just before sunrise.

Breathtaking layers of colours from the sky to the ground.

The sun rising slowly and shining on the snow-capped mountains.

Enjoying the view of the Western Himalayan Mountain Top.

When a cuppa of hot chocolate is all that is needed to bring a smile and warmth to the heart.

Lingering on a while more to enjoy the sights after the "climb of the year".

And the song goes "As the sun that rises everyday, You are so faithful, Lord You are so faithful."

The nearer you are to the snow mountains, the colder it is..

No, that's not a painting behind me. It's a real artwork of God!

Seeking shelter in the "Hot Chocolate Shop" =P

We have gone above the clouds and below the Sun.

Behold the creation of God.

Ok, time to leave this beautiful place. Bye Poon Hill.

Continuing to immerse in the scenic views as we trek downwards.
A little encouragement words written on a stone which we saw as we came up earlier on.

We've come a long way. How can we resist taking more photos?

Nope, this is not the nearest to the mountains. We are going to go even nearer by end of today!

I stood there and watched the clouds passed by.

Been there done that!

The above is the exit, the below is the "entrance".

And the "real" entrance.

The most tedious steps which we took in the coldest morning with the thinnest air. We conquered them!

Breakfast time!

Cabbage or Cauliflower?

Of rocks and stones.

Of bigger sharp edged rocks and stone. (Oh, how I thank God that it was the first day of the trek that I fell when the terrain was more sandy).

Enjoying the shade of the oak trees.

Can you see the light?Walking out of the jungle.

Out of the shade into the sun.
Onto a different type of terrain.

Looking beyond the horizons.

"I'll shout it from the mountain top, PRAISE GOD!, I want the world to know, the Lord of Love has come.."
Now, I'm in the midst of the clouds..

Beautiful blue flowers blooming in the cold (and to me, harsh) climate.

My friend said that this tree was striken down by a lightning. What do you think?

Yellow flowers standing tall and proud.

Do you remember what you learnt during Physics? Took out my Milo bar, only to find it all bloated up with air. Can anyone tell me why? ;)

Waters from high.

By faith, I trust this trunk to bridge me over to the other side...

A little powerhouse beside a waterfall.

How envious I am to see waters so abundant everywhere.. In Singapore, we have to buy water from our neighbouring countries..

Cascading waterfalls.

More waterfalls!

Budding white flowers!

Lunch!

Where are we now?

Landslide. This was one of the scariest path, we were literally "pushed" to the edge of the moutain, hugging around a tree trunk, treading carefully so that we will not fall off the cliff, or slide down the slippery path.

When we got back to the normal path, I saw the sign below and when I looked up, I was visibily touched. These 2 men above were lifting big heavy stones and placing them in path, step by step, slowly and surely.

Further down the road, we saw this notice on the path.

How encouraging huh? Because of that, I've decided to say "press on, you can do it!" to anyone else along the way. Positive words help more than Negative words.

Finally after a long dreary day, we reached our destination after sundown. As we were late, there were no more rooms for us. We were only able to find a wooden shed - literally 4 wooden walls and a aluminium ceiling. Sylvia said that she saw a glimpse of the condition where Mary and Joseph stayed when Baby Jesus was born (Luke 2: 6-7). In that cold dark room barely lit with 3 candlelights, I suddenly realised that a bowl of hot plain porridge mixed with a super cold can of tuna shared among the 4 of us could taste so good. I learnt that life really could be so simple. A simple shelter, a simple food, no electricity, no internet. Yet, one can still find pleasure in the midst of it all. =)

"The Lord preserves the simple. I was brought low, but He saved me." Psalms 116:6
