It was one of the tea break sessions when I realised that the portaits of the various Roman Emperors are on the different pillars in the convention hall.
Domitian who liked to be called 'lord and god'; and of course, the well-known Julius Caesar.
It sure was interesting to be able to put a face to the names which I had learnt.
Since it was the last day of the conference, the meals seemed a little more sumptuous.
The conference ended slightly after lunch. We didn't take part in the Poker Tournament, so we had time to walkaround in the afternoon.
We heard that there's a garden festival in Bellagio, so we took a walk over.
(see http://princesspetrine.blogspot.com/2008/07/singapore-flower-festival-2008.html)
Bees made of Chrysanthemum and snails' shells made of Roses.
Stepping out of Bellagio, we are greeted with the Eiffel Tower from a different angle.
Everything's sexier in Paris.
Visited the pink flamingoes at the wildlife habitat at Flamingo Hotel.
It was the next day that I learnt from the guide on my 7 day tour that this used to be called Flamingo Hilton Hotel. Years ago, Hilton Hotel pulled out, so this hotel is now called Flamingo Hotel.
Tortoises and Fishes.
Man-made waterfall
Outside, a lady clad in bikini was selling drinks in a guitar-shaped water bottle. Yes, you could sling the guitar around your shoulder like a rock star, and drink from it..
At Harrah's, a showgirl was providing free photos. Of course we grabbed at the opportunity to receive a free keepsake of the iconic Vegas gal.
Free play on the jackpot? I wasn't keen at all, but Mohan was so excited that he just went to try. We all know that it's just a marketing gimmick.
Of course you'll win something to go into the casino to play. So we won 50 credits each.
The catch is, you can only use this promotional credits on selected machines to play.
It's my first time playing jackpot.
Initially I thought it was complicated. But after a while, i realised that it is a literally brainless game. It's ok if I don't know how to match the icons to see if I have won. The machine will do all the calculation for me. All I needed to do is to press the button. Imagine if it were real cash, the money would just slip away every second as fast you click on the button..
But hey I won 20 credits with 2 credits! And Lawrence won 100 credits with 2 credits!
It is quite a marketing gimmick. With 50 credits, we realise that there are possible chances of winning more. So if we put in USD50, there's a possibility of winning USD100. Why not huh?
Unfortunately the casino didn't manage to tempt the 3 of us. We played for a good half and hour and then made our way to Venetian.

They are on the ceilings. (Ever wondered how did the painters painted without a neck ache? :p)
For those who haven't been to Venetian, this is the landmark. An indoor canal which leads to the outside. The shops on the first floor are real, the second storey is fake, so is the sky.
Oh, and when you feel like revitalising yourself with fresh air, you can buy some fresh oxygen to breathe in via a tube (imagine sick hospital patients with rubber tubing which has 2 perforated holes across the nose). Yup, sip on a cup of coffee or enjoy a cocktail while you are at it..
As for Lawrence and Mohan, they decided to settle for Starbucks.
While waiting for them to purchase their drinks, I popped into Houdini Magic Shop. One of the store attendants were demonstrating some tricks. He took a stack of poker cards, shuffled it, and asked the lady guest to pick a card (and not show it to him). Next, he asked the male guest to pick another card (and not show it to him). After that, he got the couple to put the cards back into the stack of cards, shuffled the deck of cards. He showed us an ordinary looking cup which was empty. Then he put the deck of cards into the cup upright. He placed the cup in front of the lady, and snapped his fingers. The particular card which the lady had chosen just now moved up on its own. That sight of it really gave me the creeps. Then he placed the cup in front of the gentleman, and the particular card which the man had chosen also moved up on its own. Just as I was recovering from the chills, the magician took out a blank colouring book. He asked one of the customers to wave his hand over the book. Ta-daa, he flipped the book and the pages are all coloured. Then he turned to me and asked me to wave my hand over the book. Ta-daa.. the book is now nothing but blank pages... Magic..
More sights of Venetian after the break. Yes, you are right. The statue in white is a person..
No I was not holding onto the umbrella. It's just a pose upon a colleague's suggestion.
The Fashion Show Mall. I think this is new. I didn't see this building the last time I came to Vegas. But I didn't enter it today either. Heard it is just shopping malls. Nothing much to see.
I turned back on my own because I had a show to catch.
That is Venetian on the outside in the open.
Passing by Miracle Mile, I entered for some of the free shows indoor. The waters was still and calm when suddenly, there are lightning effects on the sky-painted ceiling and rain and wind fell on the waters.
Starbucks? Nah, it's Sin City Brewing here..
Imitation of Hollywood walk of fame?
Since there was time, I visited the 4 storey m&m store.
Red or Yellow, Blue or Green?
You'll be amazed by the colours and types you can choose from!
I wanted to catch the free 15 min 3D movie. Unfortunately the Theatre was closed.
Right beside the m&m store was Coca-Cola. So I did a quick peek in it too.
After collecting my Crazy Horse Paris ticket from MGM, I still had some time, so I thought I would take a stroll in New York New York next door.
I meant, a stroll inside. Yes. That is the interior of New York New York above, and the exterior entrance below.
I shan't bore you with more details. I chanced upon krispy kreme doughnuts and remembered someone telling me to give it a try. So I settled for 2 doughnuts for dinner inside New York New York, together with a packet of milk which I took from the conference this morning =P
I don't remember seeing a plaque the last time. But apparently this Statue of Liberty is a memorial of sorts for those whose lives were lost in the 9-11 tragedy.
And the last stop of the night, a tastefully artistic show.
History has it that Circus Circus (I went there 3 years ago) was the first to come up with promotional ideas to lure guests to the casino. What it did was to offer USD1.99 all you can eat buffet. That was some 30 years ago. The promotion worked. Though Circus Circus was almost at the outskirts of Vegas Strip, the USD1.99 buffet drew crowds over.
In a bid to keep its guest, the owner of Bellagio decided that he needed to do something too. However, instead of running a cheap buffet where losses are bound to be incurred, he came up with the fountain show. Water and equipments are recycled and with different music, there are can be different shows throughout the day. What an ingenious idea. The free fountain show worked and people came in flocks.
The owner of Bellagio knew that if this fountain was so successful, someone will soon do something similar with fire. So before anyone could do anything similar, the owner of Bellagio ,who also owns Mirage, did up the volcano show.
Thereafter, and this is what really puzzled me, he sold his shares of Bellagio and Mirage, and built the most costly Wynn and Encore.
