Arches National Park

6.30am (Neveda Time) Beautiful Sunrise !! (Picture taken on the coach) It is indeed a beautiful morning which started, unfortunately, in a rather unglamorous way for me.
Remember in my last post, I said I changed room? Well, my fault that I forgot to inform the tour guide, and the reception did not inform the guide as well.

So I slept lightly, without setting any alarm on my handphone, trusting that morning call at 5am would come.

"Ring ring" the phone rang, and I got up, thinking that it was 5am. "Wei wei, how come you are still in bed? It's 6am already and the whole bus of people is waiting for you!" Through my blurry eyes, I looked at my watch and had a shock! "Give me 10 mins, I'll be down!" I was taken aback. Thankfully I hadn't unpacked much of my luggage. So in 5 mins, I washed up, changed and got out of the room!

The tour guide is nice, he packed some muffins for me (since I missed the free breakfast provided by the hotel) so that I can have something to eat along the way.
So despite the eventful morning, I'm thankful for morning! Thankful that I am not left behind, thankful that the group found me missing and thankful that the group waited for me. And perhaps it's God's way of not making me feel alone on the trip, I became an instant star in the group =P Everyone knows me! =) Is that snow on the mountain top? We wasn't quite sure initially.
But soon I realised that even deep into summer, you can see snow capped mountains!
See the changing colours of the valley. More hues of red are showing..
The fluffy sky adds to a unique dimension to the backdrop.

It is going to be an exciting day as we head northeast to the Arches National Park!
Munching on a hard boiled egg which the tour guide packed for me too. =D

Along the way, we passed by the Green River (which is smaller than Colorado River). It is green and when it hits the mud, it become brownish yellow. I learnt that the Colorado River itself has different colours at different segment. There is the White River, so named as the waters crushes into the rocks around it.
Here we are at Arches National Park approved by President Roosevelt in 1929.

Before going up and deeper into the park, we had a short toilet break and walked around the lobby.
Dinosaur footprint and meteorite from outer space? Hmm.. an eye opener huh?

We were informed that we would not be able to reach the famous Arch often featured on brochures and websites. So we had better take a photo with the replica made for visitors like us.
The arches are made of sandstone.
2000 years ago, everything here was under the sea. The salt bed is soft and when it cannot handle the pressure, it collapses and thus we see the various natural formations today.
This is known as the Balanced Rock. Does the structure looks like one big rock is balancing delicately on another?
Here we are in "Avenue of the park". Behind me is one of the eye of the window.
And I'm going to climb up there to find out for myself why it is called "the eye of the window".
Does it look like an eye? What will we see through the window?
Words cannot describe, and the camera's limited. But I must admit the scenary is breath taking! It's like sitting at the top of the world, enjoying the soft breeze and looking across the natural creation of the world. wow!
There are some 2000 arches in this park. Since they are made of sandstone, the sand will be washed away by water over time. This also means what we see today will be different in ages to come!

So take more photos and treasure every sight while we can!

But one thing to note: Stay within the trail! Rattlesnakes are beyond! This place was first founded by the Native Indians (Hispanic people) some 700 years ago. They have since been "eradicated" from this place by the Whites.
Leaving the Arches, we travelled along highway 128 and took the scenic route along Colorado River.
Does that looks like a dragon eye?

After 2 hours, we finally reached MacDonald's in Colorado for lunch!Nah, me as usual go on budget meals. =P Mini Pretzels taken from the airplane? Time to finish that and lighten my load.
And taking a photo with the US flag in 2010! (See the last photo taken in 2007 on http://princesspetrine.blogspot.com/2007/07/staying-in-san-carlos.html )

Milk packed from the conference a few days ago.
Opps.. I took a sip and threw the milk away. It has curded. I think mom would have liked it cos it would have become the kinda yoghurt which she loves to make at home..

See the slightly more choppy waters making white waves? That is the White River (which is part of the Colorado River actually)

Immersing in the different colours of US as we travel from Denver to Vail.
The Rocky Mountains? These mountains are about 8100feet above sea level. Thus the snow on the top.
And here we are at Vail, the ski-ing resort.

The highest point would have been 9000miles above ground (or should it be 9000feet? Gotta check the internet to verify it someday!)
Anyway, this is supposedly our dinner break. Yes, we've travelled yet another 6 hours altogether to this place.
Looking at the different things we hardly see in Singapore.

Or haven't seen back home..

Managed to catch an "iconic shot" through the coach window of Vail.
People travel here to ski among the Aspen Trees which turns yellow in Autumn.

Reach our nice comfy hotel! Since I'm alone, I had been given a gigantic king sized bed!
oooOOOooo.. adjust the firmness of the mattress with this control.. you can control the firmness on the left side and the right side. Thereafter, you can remember the degree of firmness and the next time you come across a similar mattress, you can input the settings immediately to your own comfort!
Tomorrow will be a windy afternoon? I hope it wouldn't be too cold! I didn't expect to see snow in Summer and I hadn't brought a thick jacket nor windbreaker!
In any case, I trust that God will Provide. Night!
