Sharing Joy

What would you do if you think that you can do something to make someone else happy?

If you think that doing something can make someone else feel happy, just do it. As long as it is not against any principles, go ahead and not worry about what others may think.

I'm glad I did.

2 years ago, my church celebrated it's 50th Anniversary. On that joyous day itself, there were 50 of us who publicly affirmed our faith. After the special service, a 10 course lunch was served to 82 tables. I was blessed by the attendance of 2 tables of friends from outside church, and blessed with many cards and gifts. But one thing I never forget was the surprise of receiving a bouquet of fresh white and yellow lillies as I walked out of the main sanctuary down the aisle. I was so touched and happy to receive those flowers that I can still remember vividly the joy it brought me.

Today, 3 Young Adults (from among the 63 baptism candidates) from NLC are getting baptised. And I thought that I should share that joy of receiving flowers by getting them some flowers. Unfortunately, when I asked my co-worker to share in the flowers yesterday, she felt that there wasn't a need. And so there goes my hope of sharing that special joy.

But the thought lingered on for the next few hours...till evening..till all the flower shops were closed.. And then I asked myself the question "What would you do if you think that you can do something to make someone else happy?" Why not? I thought. (I really do have a lot of reasons for getting the flowers for this occassion.) I'll just try to get some flowers for them by myself. Well, at least I try..Afterall I have no idea if any florists will be open so early on Saturday morning.

Late Friday night. I smsed a friend (who usually gives me a lift to church) to pick up me earlier tomm..to try to see if we could get some flowers.. And guess what? He was surprised by the sms because another friend had just asked him earlier in the day to get flowers for the same 3 sisters who were getting baptised. So he thought I had communicated with the other friend. But no, and it was a pleasant surprise for me. Hey, at least someone thinks alike. =)

So this morning, I woke up earlier, went to the cut flower wholesale market and was glad that it was open! =) Unfortunately there wasn't any lillies. Maybe they were all already sold out. So I got some tulips and sunflowers. Brought them church and started wrapping them up in the church carpark! It was so hilarious but fun.

After service, with some of the other YA, I gave the beautifully blooming flowers to the 3 sisters. And boy, you could see the joy in their faces. And heh, how glad I was that I did what I wanted when I saw them carrying the flowers with them wherever they went, taking photos.

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. " 2 Corinthians 9:13

Such joy, has overflowed and multiplied. It was simply because I had great joy when I received flowers on my special day. I just wanted to share it out. I'm so glad I managed to share it out with this 3 special sisters (and 2 other youths) this extra little joy. I had no hard feelings against the co-worker who didn't want to share the flowers with me. I know that she didn't know that the flowers will bring such joy because she hasn't experienced it before. She was sharing after the event that it had never occured to her but now she realised the difference it made.

We cannot share what we do not know.

For those who have experienced the joy of knowing Jesus so much, it's only natural that they want to share the joy.

So that another can share in the love, joy and blessing.
