A Sweet Reminder

I had cut and paste this from a worship set which I led on 16th April 2006.

"I want to share with you something that happened to me 2 weeks ago. I met up with a good old friend. In fact, he’s my kindergarten-primary-school-secondary-and-jc school mate whom I still meet up occasionally.

As usual, he’d asked me what I wanted to eat and my response would be “anything”. So he’ll resort to the good old way of asking “Aircon /non-Aircon?” I said “Air Con”. “Fastfood / non Fastfood?” I said “Non Fastfood” “So it gonna be a restaurant”. We went to the nearest restaurant and were waiting at the entrance when I suddenly remembered something and told him “eh, my friend just told me recently that his boss said never to step into this restaurant again.” “Huh?” My friend almost had second thoughts about entering the restaurant. But I said “Oh never mind, let’s just go in.”

And guess what? We actually saw our primary school teacher there!

We were so excited that we stood and talked for quite some time before our teacher stopped us and got us to sit down order our food first.

You see, like many of you, we visited our primary school teacher on teacher’s day during our secondary school days. Yes, all 4 years. We would even go to her house and visit her on CNY. But as the years goes by, the frequency of meeting up with our other friends and teacher diminished. In fact, after my first year in university, we stopped visiting our teacher. That’s about 6 years now. So it was really an enjoyable time of catching up.

When my teacher finished her meal with her husband and friends, she asked her husband to go ahead first while she came over to talk a little more with us.

What I wanted to share with you is this: At the end of the conversation, she said with a smile “Enjoy your meal, the bill has been paid for.”

*pause* (My reaction was exactly like yours.) “Wow!” I thought this was something that happens only in drama serials. You know, where someone sitting across the restaurant tells the waiter that he/she will take the tab of another table.

We were surprised. We were speechless. I mean, we are no longer primary school kids. We are working adults who could pay for our own meals.

Even after my teacher had left us, I was still very touched. When the dessert was served, we were still smiling and giggling at the unexpected treat. Each scoop of ice-cream was a such sweet reminder of how much my teacher loves me.

Then it dawned upon me that that’s how we should live our lives too – Every moment of our life, every breath that we breathe and every step that we take, we should live with the sweet reminder that Jesus has paid for our sins. Thankful that He died on the cross for us so that we may have eternal life."

Why am I posting this up today? It's because during lunch time today, I bumped into the same teacher again! This time at a coffeeshop in Clementi selling the famous Lor Mee. I went there because I wanted to try out the western stall beside the Lor Mee stall. After placing my order, my teacher came up to me and asked "Is this someone I know?" I was caught by surprise, looked up and greeted my teacher. This time round, I wanted to pay for her Lor Mee, but she had already finished eating (and of course paid for it). But the next thing I knew, was when the waitress served my rib-eyed steak, that my teacher had taken the tab for my lunch again!! My friend who was lunching with me gave that same comment I shared years ago -- that this looked like something that only happens in a drama serial.

But as for me, it happened in real life and was once again a sweet reminder of the love that surrounds.

Think About His Love

Think about His love,
Think about His goodness,
Think about His grace that brought us through.
For as high as the heaven’s above
So great is the measure of our Father’s love.
Great is the measure of our Father’s love.

How could I forget His love
How could I forget His mercy
He satisfies, He satisfies,
He satisfies my desires.
Great is the measure of our Father’s love.
