Forever 20

Last year, I spent my special day at NLC Small Group because it fell on a Thursday.
This year, the day fell on a Friday which falls on a night out with GLCC Young Adults fellowship.

While I was sharing with a group of sisters, I caught a sniper "secretly" shooting a picture of me!

And so I was told that the surprise party cum the cake with 29 candles were waiting patiently for the sharing and prayer to end.

To be frank, I wasn't surprised by the supposed surprise because someone had accidentally smsed me at 7pm to say "Sorry sis, I can't be there this evening to cut the cake with you." =P

But there was no doubt a genuine surprise smile on my face as you can see from the photo below... Because I was pleasantly surprised that the organiser has only placed 2 big candles on the cake! =D

"So nice of you to just keep my age at 20." I thought. Then I was later told that the truth was because the 9 little candles had burnt out while waiting for the hour long sharing and prayer. (But hey, I wasn't the only one sharing and praying! Not my fault! =p )

In any case, I'm thankful for Hmay and Daphee, and the endless surprises we organise at each other's birthdays.. The planned surprises may not always go accordingly, but we are always filled with giggles and joys at the end of each accomplished mission!

Afterthoughts: As I looked at the 9 little candles which burnt out while waiting for me, I can't help but be reminded of the fraility of life. We can hide the number of candles on the cake or tell people that we are "always 20". But the truth of the fact is that Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro. Psalms 39:6 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow. Psalms 144:4.
Psalms 39: 4-5
Show me, O LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath.
