As a good host, I ought to bring her to the fellowship. And as a good host, I should reach there earlier, to pray, to ensure that she's greeted with hospitality that she would come. So I aimed to do that.
But this was a lazy rainy and cool Saturday. I thought I should just go back and nap a little more, afterall I had worked till 2am the night before..
I set my alarm at 3.30pm that I should get out of my bed. When the alarm rang, I really wanted to wallow in my bed a little more. After 2 snoozes, I dragged myself out of the bed to wash up. I knew I had better make good my promise to God of being early to receive the new friend.
As I walked towards the bus stop, I was greeted by a Pasar Malam !! I was just commenting to a friend last week that I missed walking through these street markets. The first stall was selling watches at $2.80 a piece (what a deal!). I stopped at the stall to look at the watches (you know how much I love watches). When I finished screening the watches, I was very tempted to walk through the whole Pasar Malam, but (it must have been the Holy Spirit) I stopped short in my footsteps and turned back to the path towards the bus stop.
The writer of Ecclesiastes wrote in chapter 8:9 "Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment. "
I got up the bus, reached church exactly at 4.57pm. (Phew! Before 5pm! ) But there was no one in sight at the Atrium and I wasn't sure if the new friend had managed to make her way to the 2nd floor. So I thought I would just proceed to the Young Adults Fellowship Corner to check if she has gone up on her own. When I reached there, I realised that she hasn't arrived, but I saw another sister who was also introduced to this new friend last Sunday.
So I grabbed the sister and said "Hey, let's go down together and welcome the new friend if she comes." I wasn't sure if the new friend would come. But I had hope. And thought it wouldn't harm to wait for 5 mins.
Guess what? Just as we reached the Atrium and looked out to the front gate, we saw the new friend alighting from her mom's car.
Wow! What perfect timing in God's Hands!
