Vietnam Day 3: Found at the morning market, a Mont Blanc rollerball pen, and a leather strapped Colour of Dreams Franck Muller watch.
And this costs in total 250,000 bucks (in Duong) .Some things come cheap, and you know it ain the real thing.
"It's no good, it's no good!" says the buyer; then off he goes and boasts about his purchase. " Proverbs 20:14
Some people get fake things and use them as though they are using the real thing, proudly. Some people do not know that they are not using the real thing and carry off the fake proudly.
Some people know that it is a fake, still use it, unfortunately with a fear that they will be found out.
Others know that it is a fake but still use it, perhaps with a sense of guilt, or maybe with a sense of shame that they aren't using the real thing.
"Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel." Proverbs 20:15
My question is, what was it about the fake that got your attention? Was it just that brandname? Cos without that brandname, a watch is a watch which tells the time and a pen is a pen which allows you to jot something down on paper, isn't it? I'm going to do a thesis/dissertation on this someday. Branding and Self-Image: What is it that makes people spend real cash on a real Rolex Watch or Rolls Royce Car?
"We have heard of Moab's pride— her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and her insolence— but her boasts are empty." Isaiah 16:6
But I guess, more important questions loom in the philosophical world:
Do you know the difference between the reality and fantasy?
How much do you know about the truth to point out the false?
Why do you accept the fake when you know that it leads to nothing?
Have you really understood the meaning of truth?
What do you take pride in and boast about? The truth or the untruth?
'but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. "Jeremiah 9:24
