The maid agency changed another maid for us, this second maid was willing but unable to help my mom. Time was running short, my current maid, looking at the situation was willing to stay on for 2 more years. But in order to let her do that, we needed to cancel the new maid's employment pass. And to do that, means that we need to send the new maid back which means we need to buy a ticket for her. And the agency wouldn't want us to do that cos the maid owed the agency quite a sum of money to come over..
So we were stuck.. and my mom got really desperate.. tears in distress.. cos even if we get yet another new maid, there's just simply no time to train her.. our current maid needed to go back within 7 days of the cancellation of the pass.
The rest of the days were mad rushes and waiting. I went down to Ministry of Manpower. But what else could they say or do apart from following the law? Sighz..
Finally with much persuasion, we managed to get the help of MOM to get the agency to send the new maid back. That took one day. After the new maid is repatriated, we needed to first reinstate the employment pass of our current maid cos it was previously cancelled. After reinstatement, in order to renew the work permit, we need to purchase the guarantee bond first. That took another day. When the maid's pass is being renewed, we needed to bring the renewal letter and old work permit and maid's passport to take the new work permit. Only after that we could bring the maid down for her regular medical checkup.
What a long, tedious and trying process. We are still short of the maid's medical checkup. But at least things are smoothened out now. In all, we were setback by about $2000. But still, it is better than losing the $5000 bond and paying the agency what the maid owed them.
To the few who were trying to help. Sincere thanks for your efforts, guidance, advice and most importantly, prayers.
